SHEFFIELD team boss Simon Stead insists that the “pressure is on” Belle Vue to complete the job and win the Premiership Grand Final.
The Tigers travel to the National Speedway Stadium with the huge task of overturning a four-point deficit from the first leg at Owlerton.
Belle Vue have a 100 per cent home record this term and the Tigers haven’t tasted success in Manchester since May 2024.
But Stead insists his side are refusing to throw in the towel - despite the odds being stacked against them.
He vowed: “There’s still another 15 heats to go. The pressure is certainly on them now - we’ve got nothing to lose and wouldn’t it be great if we could pull something out of the bag and pull off something really special.
“We’ve shown in the past we can go well at Belle Vue, but we’ll need to be at our very best collectively on this occasion.”
Sheffield name the same 1-7 which sees former Belle Vue man Max Fricke guest at No.1 whilst the hosts bring in Nicolai Klindt in place of the injured, and now retiring, Peter Kildemand.

Stead insists that the “pressure is on” Belle Vue in decider

SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey has said it’s “time to put to bed” the Championship Grand Final controversy.
A Speedway Control Bureau statement this week ruled that regulation 012.1.11, which concerns ‘leaving the track’ on the inner edge, had been breached by Poole captain Zach Cook in the Super Heat decider a week ago.
However, the result was announced as a statement of fact, and it stands as declared, with Godfrey saying he is now keen to move on from the incident.
He said: “I can’t tell people what to think and many have their own opinion, especially since it was confirmed that the rule was breached in the Super Heat.
“But it’s time to put it to bed. I don’t hold a particular grudge against Poole Speedway and congratulations to them.
“I feel it’s time to move on. I don’t want the 2026 Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions to just be remembered as ‘that team who were robbed of a league championship.’
“I’m so proud of this team. In terms of team spirit, this is the best team we’ve ever had. No-one fancied us and yet we reached the Grand Final of the Cab Direct Championship.
“I promised that if we didn’t win the league this season, that we would next year, and that’s what we are still planning to do.”
It was the most controversial end to the season of all-time. In the deciding final race, Scunthorpe complained that Poole’s race winner Cook had illegally crossed the inner white line to take the lead ahead of Scunthorpe’s Josh Pickering.
The referee Paul Carrington declared the result despite appeals from Scunthorpe boss David Howe who blasted that his side had been “cheated”.
Since then the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB) have admitted that the referring decision was INCORRECT and that Cook had crossed the white line.
But, remarkably, there is no appeal process so Poole remain champions despite the wrong decision.
Scunthorpe boss David Howe said: “After the hearing this morning I fully accept the results as the rule is the rule.
“It is nice however to be justified in my assessment of the rule, every insult that I have endured over the last few days has now been proven wrong.
“Thank you to the SCB for being impartial and giving me a fair hearing.”
The SCB had stated: “A rider whose machine crosses the inner edge of the track with 2 wheels must be disqualified unless, in the opinion of the Referee, the action was taken in the interests of safety for other riders or the rider involved was forced off course by another rider.
“Having reviewed the regulation as written, this has been breached, however due to the result being announced this was now a Statement of Fact and any appeal is inadmissible as per SCB Regulation 018.1.2 a).
“Therefore, the result stands as declared, and the Scunthorpe Promotion have accepted the decision.”

Scorpions "time to put to bed" Grand Final controversy

JASON DOYLE insisted that only “half a job” has been done despite Belle Vue’s emphatic win at Sheffield.
The ATPI Aces took a 47-43 advantage in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Grand Final first leg at Owlerton on Monday night.
Now they will aim to complete the job at the National Speedway Stadium on Friday for their third league title in five seasons.
Doyle has been a total powerhouse performer since replacing Dan Bewley back in early June. He dropped just one point at Owlerton.
He added: “We knew Sheffield was going to be tough, they are so good at home.
“But I think the weather played in our hands a little bit. The track was really nice, it wasn’t as powdery as normal.
“There were a lot of race lines. In the last couple of heats, a lot of riding on the inside.
“We know it’s still half a job. We’re not getting our hopes up yet. Speedway can be a funny business and they can pull it back.
“We need the fans to be pumping and cheering for us. It’s always nice to have the fans behind us.”
Brady Kurtz only lost out to Max Fricke in heat 1 and reeled off four different class victories thereafter in a stunning team performance from the Manchester side.
He continued: “I’m super-happy. What a job by the whole team from top to bottom.
“We were all a little bit down with Kildy (Peter Kildemand) not being here. Everyone chipped in and did their job. That’s all we can ask for.
“I was trying to do my best for everyone, it’s not a one-man thing. I’m glad that it worked out.
“It’s been a long season, we’re at the pointy end now and we all just wanted to get past today and look forward to the home leg.”

Doyle: Only "half a job" done so far for Aces

NORICK BLODORN says it would be the “icing on the cake” to complete a hat-trick of titles with Belle Vue
The hugely-popular German celebrated winning the Ekstraliga a week ago in Poland but now wants to complete an amazing season by doing the same with the Manchester club.
ATPI Aces go to Sheffield in the first leg of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Grand Final tonight, live on BSN at 7pm.
They are without Peter Kildemand who broke his wrist at Plymouth on Saturday night. Mitch McDiarmid comes in as a guest.
Blodorn, 22, has been a key figure of the recent success story at the National Speedway Stadium, having already won the title in 2022.
Ironically he was on winning side for Torun at Wroclaw, outgunning his Belle Vue buddies Brady Kurtz and Dan Bewley.
Now he’s aiming for success with Kurtz, starting at Owlerton.
He said: “It was an amazing weekend to win the Ekstraliga with Torun.
“We had a big celebration but now it’s focus on winning the title in the UK. To now win with Belle Vue, that would be the icing on the cake I think you say!
“I’ve been at Belle Vue for five years, since 2022 and we’ve already won two titles. To get a third would be amazing and do the double with Poland.
“I’ve still got in the back of my mind that Belle Vue gave me the chance to become a professional speedway rider. So it’s special to try and win for them and the fans.
“In paper perhaps Leicester might have been a little easier, but I’m not so sure.
“But having Sheffield in the Grand Final brings up some good memories after we won the title there in 2022. That was a proper special night, one of the best ever.
“Even compared to winning the Ekstraliga in Wroclaw, the atmosphere at Sheffield that night of the final in 2022 was the best ever.”
Blodorn admits that the Aces must make sure they are fired-up for the big opening clash in the War of the Roses.
He added: “When we managed to beat Ipswich in the semi-final it didn’t feel like we’d done anything special.
“We just did the job and made the final. It didn’t feel like such a great achievement.
“Now we need to really focus on the job against Sheffield. We can’t take anything for granted and don’t let anything slip out of our hands now.
“We’ve had such a good season, it would be so silly to throw it away now.
“Everyone at the club knows what we have to do. We go to Sheffield to win the meeting, same we have done all season.”
Blodorn has been sensational this season at No.2 and believes it’s all down to the right mentality.
He said: “I always knew I was capable of scoring well in the UK. But some years I’ve been good in the UK and not in Europe and some years the other way round. It’s been very frustrating.
“I’ve not really made any big changes this year, I think it’s just down to confident and belief. Speedway can be very much in the mind.
“I also think being in the Ekstraliga and racing against top boys every week is tough. That experience and pressure has helped me in the UK as well.
“I’ve still done a lot over the past few seasons. In 2022 I won the league with Belle Vue and then in 2024. Last year I won the Speedway of Nations 2 and now I’ve won the Ekstraliga. The last one is the Premiership. That would be a perfect end to the season.”
Sheffield bring in Max Fricke as a guest for Jack Holder after he served them so well in the semi-final against Leicester.
Tigers boss Simon Stead said: “I really hope to see the place full. Let’s make one of those really special Owlerton atmospheres under the lights – then it’s down to us to go out there and get the job done!
“The beauty of the play-offs is that anything can happen and nothing is guaranteed.
“Yes, some people may make Belle Vue the favourites because they did finish top – but we’re going to be going into this Grand Final giving it absolutely everything.”
SHEFFIELD: Max Fricke, Anders Rowe, Chris Holder, Leon Flint, Josh Pickering, Jye Etheridge, Luke Killeen.
BELLE VUE: Brady Kurtz, Norick Blodorn, Mitch McDiarmid, Zach Cook, Jason Doyle, Tate Zischke, Will Cairns.

Blodorn aims for "icing on the cake" Aces glory

BERWICK owner Jamie Courtney admitted he “couldn’t be prouder” after his side landed their first KO Cup for 37 YEARS.
The Bandits drew 45-45 at Plymouth to secure the silverware on an emotional night in Devon.
They achieved glory in front of over 300 fans who made the 500-mile trip from the Borders despite losing No.1 Peter Kildemand in an opening race horror crash.
The Dane sustained a broken wrist but stayed in the pits to help out his team mates wrap up the biggest result for the club this century.
Courtney, standing in for Stewart Dickson after the Scot was unable to travel due to a viral infection, was full of praise for the side which lifted the cup they last won when his father, Mark, was Berwick’s top rider in 1989.
He said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the boys, or more delighted for the fans who travelled in huge numbers and created a quite unbelievable atmosphere.
“Losing Peter was a huge blow and I am so upset that his career has ended this way. But he remained in the pits and helped keep the boys focused on the job in hand.
“We knew Plymouth would come hard early on but we weathered that and in reality had the answer for everything they threw at us.
“Nick was immense, Jordan too but all seven riders gave everything for me and the club tonight and thoroughly deserved their reward.
“There’s no doubt 37 years is a ridiculous wait to lift the trophy and the task for everybody at Berwick is to ensure that this is the start of something and not just a one-off trophy.
“Jye (Etheridge) scoring the points that clinched the win was the icing on the cake. Back in Berwick the Black and Gold was full to capacity watching on the big screen.
“Jye’s getting the party he spoke about at the start of the season and I’ve a feeling it will be going for some time yet!”

Berwick boss "couldn't be prouder" after KO Cup glory

BERWICK’S Jye Etheridge has vowed his side are “not taking anything for granted” in the MAXiCab KO Cup final second leg.
The Bandits go to Plymouth tonight with a 26-point margin as they bid for their first team silverware for over 30 years, live on BSN.
But Etheridge is well aware that big leads can count for nothing, especially after his ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Play-Off semi-final scare for Sheffield at Leicester last week.
He admitted: “We are not going to Plymouth with a lead, that’s not in our mindset.
“We have to go there to win the meeting like we would in any other situation. We are not taking anything for granted that’s for sure.
“Obviously with myself, Nick Morris and Stewart Dickson involved in the meeting at Leicester and Sheffield, we know that any lead means it’s not over.
“There’s no reason why Plymouth can’t make it difficult for us at their place like we did to them at home.
“But we know we now have to be on our top form for Plymouth. It’s our last meeting of the season but it’s a big one.
“We’ve not won it yet but we go there with the belief to get the job done.
“There’s a Berwick bus going down, there’s people flying down, driving and going by train.
“I’ve got my neices are coming down with their parents in the car. It’s a massive meeting for the club and the town.
“It’s been over 35 years since our last major team KO Cup win. Mark Courtney was riding for the Bandits then and now his son Jamie runs Berwick. So it means a lot to them as well.
“Obviously all this comes with a bit of pressure as well. We need to get the trophy, that’s for sure.”
Etheridge believes the Bandits are now in their best form ahead of the massive clash in Devon.
But he’s also slightly disappointed they didn’t reach the Cab Direct Championship Play-Offs as well.
He added: “Victor (Palovaara) had a difficult patch in the middle of the year but they’d just had a baby so it was a hectic time for him.
“But he’s ending the season really well and the whole team is on fire now.
“We’ve got a cracking team and everyone is loving the season we have had.
“We got a bit unlucky by not making the Play-Offs which was our first aim.
“I think we are a threat for any team in the league because of our home advantage. We can get big scores at home which can help you win any trophy over two legs.
“But we’ve been depleted throughout the season. It was our away form that suffered the most with that. We needed a couple of wins away but it didn’t come off obviously.
“However now our focus is bringing home some silverware on Saturday night. That would be an amazing finish to the season.”

Bandits are not "taking anything for granted" in final decider

POOLE’S title winner Lewis Kerr admitted “what a ride it’s been” after quitting the sport.
The hugely-popular rider announced his retirement after securing a second successive league crown with the Pirates on Wednesday night.
Kerr’s career started in 2010 with local club King’s Lynn and he has suffered huge injuries, including almost losing his life after a horrific crash at Peterborough in 2015.
But the 36-year-old ended on a high with Poole’s glory, although ironically Kerr crashed out with concussion in the dramatic title decider.
He said: “I’m gutted to be honest to have had to pull out tonight, but I had hit my head quite badly and thought I would be okay.
“But then my vision just sort of began to go, and it just wasn’t worth the risk and letting everybody down.
“But they covered me very well. I have had two years here with Poole and two league titles. That feels so good.”
Kerr then opened on social media with an emotional farewell to the sport.
He said: “Well… I suppose the time has finally come.
“I’ll be hanging up my kevlars and calling time on my speedway career.
“I first got on a speedway bike back in 2010, with absolutely no idea where this sport was going to take me. If I’m completely truthful, I didn’t quite get to where I dreamed I would when I first started out. But looking back now, I think I did alright.
“I’ve won plenty along the way, made memories that will stay with me forever, raced for some great clubs and met some incredible people.
“There have definitely been plenty of lows. Some big crashes, some pretty serious injuries and times where this sport has tested me more than I ever thought it could. But the highs have massively outweighed the lows.
“To be able to say that I’ve thrown a speedway bike around in circles for a living for the last 13 years is something I’ll be forever grateful for. Not many people get to make a living doing something they genuinely love, and I’ve never taken that for granted.
“And what a way to finish it all — with Poole. To have won the league two years on the trot with this club is something special.
“None of it would have been possible without the people who have backed me along the way. Every single sponsor I’ve ever had from small to big, you’ve helped me live this life and keep turning up at the tapes. I’ll always be incredibly grateful for that support.
“There are a few people, though, who deserve more than just a thank you.
“My wife Jessie for your support through this crazy sport and everything that comes with it. The travelling, the injuries, the good moods, the bad moods and all the sacrifices that come with being married to a speedway rider! You’ve stood beside me through it all, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
“Mum and Dad — the support you’ve given me from the very beginning has been unbelievable. From when this was nothing more than a dream, through the good nights and the horrible ones, you’ve always been there. I genuinely wouldn’t have had this career without you, and I’ll never be able to thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me.
“One of the things that means the most to me is that Cooper and Elodie have been able to grow up watching their dad race speedway. Having my kids there, watching from the terraces and being part of this journey with me is something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Hopefully, when they’re older, they’ll remember those nights watching Dad race too. Those memories mean more to me than any trophy ever could.
“And one person I have to mention personally is Fred. For the last 10 years he’s been my mechanic, but that doesn’t really cover what he’s done for me.
“He’s been there through the good meetings, the bad meetings, the wins, the crashes, the endless travelling and all the work that nobody sees behind the scenes. Ten years is a hell of a journey to share with someone, and I genuinely couldn’t have done it without you, mate. Thank you.
“There are so many other people I want to thank — my family, friends, sponsors, mechanics, teammates, promoters and every supporter who has cheered me on, bought some merchandise, stopped for a photo or simply wished me luck over the years.
“Speedway has given me far more than just trophies and results. It’s given me a life, friendships, memories and experiences that I’ll carry with me forever.
“What a ride it’s been. Thank you, speedway.”

Kerr admits "what a ride it's been" as he quits sport

FURIOUS Scunthorpe boss David Howe blasted his side had been “CHEATED” as the Cab Direct Championship title decider ended in an angry storm.
It was the most controversial end to the season of all time as Poole won their fifth crown in six years on their home circuit in Dorset on Wednesday night.
The dramatic Grand Final saw the two-legged tie end 90-90 on aggregate between the sides, which meant a Super Heat one race decider.
Poole’s Zach Cook roared underneath Scunthorpe star Josh Pickering to take the lead on the second lap and the home side went on to win the race and spark wild celebrations.
But the North Lincolnshire riders and bosses were angry after believing that Cook’s bike had gone over the inside white line as he passed Pickering. That would mean an exclusion from the race for leaving the circuit.
As the Pirates riders and supporters - along with local star Harry Redknapp - enjoyed the glory, Scunthorpe’s riders and management raged in the pits.
Live on BSN, Howe blasted: “I was on the phone to the referee before the race was over.
“The rear view he is clearly over the white line which is an excludable offence.
“Show him the footage, show it again. The referee has an obligation to make the right decision.
“This isn’t a little meeting. The referee cost us at Scunny on Friday when a Poole rider cheated. Now the referee is going to cheat us out of it with this. It’s not right, it’s not right at all.
“I can nearly guarantee that if it had been Josh Pickering who had crossed the white line that result would have been overturned.
“We are now looking to see what can be done and what action we can now take.”
Referee Paul Carrington awarded the result after the race as Poole’s Cook received the bumps for winning the decider.
Scunthorpe No.1 Pickering was equally fuming and added: “From the front angle you can’t see bugger all. It’s the view they showed from behind.
“Zach’s a mate and I’ve already congratulated him. But at the end of the day, if he went over the inside, he went over the inside. Nothing wrong with my eyes.”
Scunthorpe won their home leg 49-41 on Friday and it was the same scoreline at Poole Stadium in Wimborne Road.
It was a night of pure drama with Scunthorpe’s Nathan Ablitt (collarbone) and Poole’s Lewis Kerr (concussion) were both ruled out after big crashes in Heats 2 and 3.
Howe continued: “After 2 hours sleep I don’t really feel that much better but here goes.
“Firstly I would like to congratulate Poole on once again building a team that is capable of topping the league and winning championships, Matt (Ford), Danny (Ford) and Middlo (Neil Middleditch) I applaud everything you do.
“Secondly, I do not subscribe to any opinion that Poole cheated, riders make split second decisions and if you believe that Zach crossed the inside white line, I do not believe for one second it was intentional or to gain an advantage.
“However, I do believe that some of the refereeing decisions this season have been questionable at best. It is not fair on riders that time after time rules that don’t exist are enforced and others rules that do are not only to be told later that ‘sorry I made a mistake’.
“I have had this on at least three occasions this year, twice where punishment given wasn’t even in the rule book. Also for balance we had a decision go our way at Edinburgh where Dan Thompson was disqualified where it was so obvious that he shouldn’t have been it was comical.
“Last night was a tough one, it’s a big call to make, I fully believe that track limits were breached but I can understand Poole defending their rider, the league was on the line and to overturn that retrospectively is now almost impossible.
“However Heat 8 in the first leg as I said it would come back to haunt us. There was clear evidence of tyre warming, the referee still started the race even as we were trying to appeal, then refused to watch the evidence but as always says after ‘I watched the replay and I made a mistake’.
“Whether the warming changed the result of that heat is neither here nor there, the rule book is clear and should have been put from 15m for the first offence, second offence is disqualification with no replacement.
“Did this affect the result I think there is a reasonable argument it did and if the powers that be had felt that was unacceptable I think that result should have been amended.
“Losing I can accept, I am not a bad loser it does not mean I like it but all I want is a level playing field.”

Scunthorpe in "cheat" storm after dramatic Grand Final decider

DAN BEWLEY says he’s “pretty weak” in certain areas ahead of a winter of training to be ready for next season.
The Cumbrian became the third rider to receive a wild card for the GP Series for 2027 alongside Maciej Janowski and Jack Holder, with one further to be announced.
Bewley saw his 2026 season wrecked when he suffered a broken femur and compressed vertebra in his back in a crash at a Danish league meeting in Outrup on May 20, his 27th birthday.
Bewley returned for the final two GPs, finishing fifth at the final round in Torun on September 26. He also completed the season with Polish club Wroclaw, winning PGE Ekstraliga silver. Prior to his crash, he also finished second at the Speedway GP season opener in Landshut, Germany on May 2.
The former World No.3 said: “I am thankful to have the wild card. I am looking forward to the winter now and to coming back at 100 percent next year.
“It was nice to come back in Torun and do the last GP, which was alright. It was nice to go into a winter, knowing I am not 100 percent, but I can still do a not-bad job. It makes me excited to have a good winter and come back next year.
“I just need time really. I’ll keep working and have some fun over the winter. It’s kind of tough to enjoy it when you’re in a little bit of pain all the time and you’re trying to mask the pain. I can still do a bit of a job for now, and I am proud of that. But I am looking forward to coming back and being able to enjoy it that little bit more.
“I am getting better from meeting to meeting, but I am still pretty weak in certain areas. That’s really where my pain is – it’s just the lack of strength. But it’s all getting better.”

Bewley ready for winter of training after GP wild card pick

POOLE boss Danny Ford admits it’s going to be “tough” to overturn Scunthorpe.
The Pirates take on the Scorpions in the Cab Cab Direct Championship Grand Final at Wimborne Road tonight, live on BSN at 7pm.
Ford’s side are looking to secure a fifth league title in six years, whilst the Scorpions were previously successful back in 2012 in a dramatic decider against Somerset.
Ford said: “This is going to be tough, and obviously I am happy that the lads managed to limit the damage on Friday to single digits.
“There were phases of the meeting up there when we could easily have been looking at a much bigger target, but the boys dug deep when it mattered and have given us a good chance of completing another double this season.
“But Scunthorpe are not going to give up their advantage without a fight and as I said last week, our strength could well be on the terraces.”
Scunthorpe won the first leg 49-41 last Friday and promoter Rob Godfrey insists previous results in Dorset this season should be discounted.
The Pirates won 61-29 in early April when the sides met in the MAXiCab KO Cup, whilst the league encounter in August resulted in a 58-31 home win.
Poole are at full strength whilst Scunthorpe bring in Jordan Jenkins to guest for Jacob Hook who is out with an aggravated collarbone injury.
Godfrey said: “Our previous results at Poole this season count for nothing. This is a fresh 15 races.
“Everyone seems to consider Poole as the favourites, and that’s fine with us – it places all the pressure on the Pirates. They are expected to win every season. We’ve been treated as the underdogs all season long, and that suits us.
“The boys know what they need to do. It’s a long trip down to Poole on the South Coast, but the more fans we have on the terraces to cheer on the lads, the more it helps us complete the job.”

Poole boss Ford admits it will be "tough" to scupper Scorpions

NORTHAMPTON chief Paul Hunsdon insists the club are not here to “make up the numbers” ahead of next season.
The Foxes take on King’s Lynn in the last ROWE Motor Oil Premiership fixtures of the campaign tonight, live on BSN at 7pm.
The two clubs both finished outside the play-off places, although the Foxes’ first season has still been regarded as a major success.
They bring in Sam Masters to guest at No.5 for the injured Jaimon Lidsey and operate rider replacement for Niels-Kristian Iversen at No.1, whilst the Stars track their regular septet.
Foxes co-promoter Hunsdon said: “Tuesday night isn’t our normal racenight so it’s a little different for us, but hopefully everyone will turn out in good numbers and we’re looking forward to saying our farewells for the season.
“It’s our final meeting and the weather forecast is on our side, and we’ll be thanking the fans by bringing all the riders out to meet and greet them afterwards as well as the management, myself, Tony (Gaul) and Chris (Adams).
“Then we can start to plan things for next season, and we do have plans to be a force in British Speedway.
“We’re not here to make up the numbers and we want to develop the club.” both and off the track. It’s been a good first season, and we hope it will be a great second season!”

Foxes not here to "make up the numbers"

JACK HOLDER has revealed he’s had “massive improvement” with movement in his hand after new surgery.
The Sheffield No.1 has been given a wild card place for next year’s Grand Prix series after injury ruled him out for the season following a crash at Wroclaw on June 20.
Holder, 30, broke his humerus (long bone in arm), foot, right ankle and a couple of ribs plus the sacrum bone in his pelvis.
The double Speedway of Nations gold medallist opened up on the severity of his injuries in an emotional interview with Greg Blair on the British Speedway Network two months ago, admitting it was “scary” with a lack of movement in his hand.
But now his recovery is now progressing following further surgery last week, and Holder admits his Speedway GP recall only makes him hungrier to get back to full fitness.
He said: “Getting the wild card is a massive weight off my shoulders. I don’t really want to be relying on them, but it is always in the back of your mind. I think I deserve it, and it’s the first one I have had, so I will take it with both hands.
“It was going well, and everything was going in the right direction this year. I was looking good, but then the season got cut short.
“It has made me hungrier now that I have that wild card, and it has given me more purpose to set the record straight when I return.
“Obviously I am super excited to be back. I was stressed about it, but now I have this opportunity. I’m just trying to get back fully fit and come back bigger and better.”
Holder admits he is in a much better frame of mind since the more recent surgery.
He added: “My foot and back are pretty much 90 percent. Everything else was getting better and better and my hand wasn’t really improving at all. I was stressing out, so I decided to get another opinion from a nerve specialist in Manchester. Within three or four days after seeing him, I had the operation and there was a massive improvement.
“The nerve was quite stuck around a lot of stuff in there. That has all been freed up, and I have noticed a massive difference in 10 days compared to the previous four months. I am seeing some improvement and building myself back up.
“Now we are just trying to get all the movement and muscles back working because my arm has been asleep for about four months.
“The nerve is intact. It was stuck, but now it’s time for that to engage with my fingers again, and I’ll have some physio to try and get full movement back in my elbow and shoulder. It’s just physio, physio, physio now.”
Holder has another huge incentive in his recovery as FIM Speedway goes Down Under for the first time in a decade with the FIM Speedway GP of Australia – Adelaide double-header at Gillman Speedway on October 29 and 30, 2027.
He added: “I heard there was talk about 2028, so when the calendar came out and I saw it, I was really hoping I was going to get the wild card then.
“I am really looking forward to it. I know it is a long way away, but it’s cool to see it on the calendar and give my friends and family back home something to look forward to. I have always liked going home and racing in front of all our family and friends.
“It’s awesome that it has finally gone back Down Under. It’s going to be a big effort for everyone, but it’s going to be very rewarding.”

Holder "massive improvement" on injury after GP wild card pick

TAI WOFFINDEN fought back the tears as he vowed: “Speedway, completed it”.
The three-times World Champion celebrated his testimonial in some style at Northampton, filmed live by BSN.
It was naturally an emotional night for Woffinden as around 6,000 fans turned out to watch a great show of speedway, drifting and motocross stunts.
Close to tears, he admitted: “Man, what a turn out. I still see myself as the kid who came over from Perth. To see all the people here today blows my mind.
“I’m going to say things quick before I start crying again. I’ve already had five little cries, just appreciating every moment.
“I couldn’t be happier. Speedway, completed it.
“I feel great, my emotions have been a rollercoaster all day. As the guys were pushed out on parade, I just crouched down and started welling up. I was like ‘what’s going on’.
“It kind of sinks in the support that I’ve got. I fly back to Australia on Monday and I just want to have a couple of weeks reminiscing about my career.
“I tried to put on the best show at my testimonial. Kind of hard watching three grand burn in the sky with the fireworks. I hope everyone had a good time.
“The people turned out, I can’t believe it. Thank you everyone.”
Leicester and Berwick star Nick Morris was the winner of the meeting at the Shaleway.
Morris has been flying over the past months and he topped the scorechart on 12 points before storming from the outside gate to win the Final.
Joining him on the rostrum were Sam Masters and the evergreen Scott Nicholls, with Tom Brennan finishing just outside the top three.
Morris said: “I’m feeling good. What a night for Tai, and obviously to win a few races and get the win tonight is a bonus, but a perfect night.
“Everyone is going home safe and the fans got a good night of racing, so everyone’s happy.”

Woffy fights back tears after incredible testimonial celebration

TAI WOFFINDEN has joked he might strip NAKED to bring the curtain down on his record-breaking career.
The five-time World Champion will celebrate 20 years of racing in the UK with a testimonial at Northampton tonight, live on BSN at 5.30pm.
Woffinden, 36, announced his retirement from the sport eight weeks ago after needing more surgery on his shoulder, 17 months after almost being killed in a horror crash in Krosno.
But wacky Woffy says he is now contemplating getting his kit-off just like he did for a photo shoot in Poland a decade ago, only covering his crown jewels with his Monster Energy crash helmet.
The most successful British rider in history revealed: “If I get naked it would show people all my scars to prove why I needed to call it a day.
“There’s about three or four foot of scars on my body over the years from so many injuries. It might be a bit too X-rated.
“Anders Thomsen has got his kit off twice after his two Grand Prix wins. But he kept his pants on the pussy!
“I might struggle to get my kit off though after my recent surgery. Don’t think the docs will let me do it!”
Woffinden has assembled a strong field for his illustrious send off with recent World Cup winner Max Fricke, British gold medalist Tom Brennan and former British Champions Danny King and Scott Nicholls.
Top Aussies Josh Pickering, Sam Masters, Nick Morris and Tate Zischke join the cast list.
There are other attractions as well including trials champion Alexz Wigg, nephew of Simon, and drifting legend JoJo McDonald.
Woffy was a guest of honour at the recent BOLL FIM World Cup Final and did a lap of the track with fellow multiple World Champ Ove Fundin and Jarek Hampel.
But he is clearly still finding it hard to adjust to life following his retirement.
He added: “I need to find myself as a person, who I am without motorsport. That’s going to take some time.
“I’ve been pretty busy since I announced my retirement, mainly sorting all my stuff out.
“I’ve been shipping stuff back out to Australia, personal effects and household items. There’s also been selling motorbikes.
“It’s been emotional, especially with the bikes. I didn’t think I’d feel emotional about it. I had the emotion when the retirement video went out.
“The bikes and everything in my workshop went to one person. It felt real then.
“I could stay involved in the sport if I wanted to. I have thought that far ahead moving forward.
“In Warsaw at the World Cup final they wanted me to do a lap on the track with Ove and Jarek, which was cool.
“There was a lot of activation for Monster Energy which I’m always happy to do and I enjoy that.
“They brought all the new staff out, I was with them to have a chat. On raceday we had the Monster Energy Rig Riot. After the event they had a couple of guys from their motorsport Dakar side and my wife Faye and I took them out for dinner. It was a really cool weekend.
“It was nice to be there. When I was racing they’d have former champions turn up now and then like Tony Rickardsson or Jason Crump. I’m happy to be involved in that way too. I feel like I’ll have a similar role in years to come.
“I had the track walk and I was like f*** I wish I was riding.”

Woffinden in naked attraction for his testimonial!

SCUNTHORPE boss Rob Godfrey is happy with his side being “underdogs” in the Cab Direct Championship Grand Final.
The Scorpions take on Poole in the first leg of their big showdown at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight, live on BSN at 7pm.
It’s their first Grand Final since 2012 when they won a dramatic decider against Somerset which went right down to the wire.
By contrast the Pirates are chasing a fifth Championship title in six years and will look to keep the score tight for Wednesday’s second leg at Wimborne Road.
The last time they clashed in a final, the Scorpions won the KO Cup in 2023.
Godfrey said: “Poole will start as favourites, but that doesn’t bother us at all. We’ve been underdogs all season but we’re in the Grand Final. It’s all about which team can reach 91 points across the two legs.
“We want a strong first leg at home. That was so important in the semi-final against Glasgow and could be again.
“This is such a big occasion for the entire town of Scunthorpe. We don’t necessarily have the chance to celebrate a lot of sporting success around here. We want the whole town to come along to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday and give our boys their support.”
Both sides have their full one to seven but there is an interesting switch for the visitors as October averages mean Zach Cook takes over as No.1 for Poole, with Richard Lawson moving to No.5.
Pirates co-promoter Dan Ford said: “In both Zach and Richard we have two of the league’s best riders. Both are in the top eight and just 0.18 of a point separates them.
“Their position in the team is largely irrelevant, they both have the passion and desire to bring the title home for a third successive season.”
SCUNTHORPE: Josh Pickering, Connor Mountain, Jacob Hook, Michael Palm Toft, Luke Harrison, Ryan Ingram, Nathan Ablitt.
POOLE: Zach Cook, Will Cairns, Lewis Kerr, Cooper Rushen, Richard Lawson, Slater Lightcap, Kyle Newman.

Scorpions happy to be underdogs for Grand Final showdown

LEICESTER boss Stewart Dickson hopes to get Sheffield “rattled” as they bid for a huge turnaround.
The Lions slumped to a shock 57-33 defeat in the first leg of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership semi-final at Owlerton.
Leicester did score 58 points at home to Sheffield less than two months ago, but that was on a night when the Tigers were forced into several changes.
On this occasion, former Lions skipper Max Fricke continues as a guest for the visitors in place of the injured Jack Holder, whilst the home side are now without Dan Thompson in addition to long-term absentee Kyle Howarth.
The hosts operate rider replacement for Thompson who has a dislocated shoulder from a training accident, whilst Paco Castagna steps in for the retired Howarth.
Lions manager Stewart Dickson said: “We’ll be giving it our very best go. We know Sheffield will be strong favourites after the first leg, but we certainly won’t be turning up believing it’s all over.
“If we can get off to a good start, I know how rattled opposing teams can get around here. What we need to go is make a good start, go well in the middle and also to finish well!”
Tigers boss Simon Stead said: “We’ve given ourselves a real good fighting chance of qualifying through to this year’s Final.
“I think with our lads riding the way they have been and with Max back in at No.1, particularly at his old stomping ground, I don’t think we could be in much more of a better position.
“We can’t afford to take anything for granted though; it would be crazy to turn up there and think that the job is done.”
LEICESTER: Ryan Douglas, Drew Kemp, Sam Masters, Dan Thompson R/R, Nick Morris, Paco Castagna, Joe Thompson.
SHEFFIELD: Max Fricke, Anders Rowe, Chris Holder, Leon Flint, Josh Pickering, Jye Etheridge, Luke Killeen.
